The West Mifflin Titans will head out to take on the Laurel Highlands Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Mifflin has seven straight wins, Laurel Highlands has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, it was close, but West Mifflin sidestepped Ringgold for a 5-4 victory. That's two games straight that the Titans have won by just one run.

Jake Martina tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Hunter Horne was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Braeden Andzelik, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Laurel Highlands didn't have quite enough to beat Hopewell on Thursday and fell 3-1.
Jack Johns was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Laurel Highlands saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sevi Vecchiolla, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
West Mifflin's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Laurel Highlands, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
West Mifflin's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Titans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Laurel Highlands, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will West Mifflin continue to outrun the ball?
West Mifflin skirted past Laurel Highlands 4-3 in their previous meeting back in June of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
