Baseball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Cathedral's Tenth in Last 12 Outings

Cathedral hadn't done well against Del Valle recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Cathedral sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over Del Valle. For the Fighting Irish, this counts as revenge for the 5-1 victory the Conquistadores walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2023.

Irvin Duarte was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last nine contests.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Medrano, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Ramirez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.

Cathedral is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. Del Valle's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5.

Cathedral wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 2-1 victory against Da Vinci on the 8th. As for Del Valle, they have also already played their next contest, a 2-1 defeat against Americas on the 11th.
