On Thursday, Northwood came up short against Vista Murrieta and fell 60-47. While losing is never fun, Northwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while Vista Murrieta is ranked 20th).
Northwood's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zaid Yunis, who scored 16 points. The match was Yunis' 13th in a row with at least ten points. Ryan Abaye was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vista Murrieta to victory, but perhaps none more so than Donovan Ford, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Ford continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cisco Munoz, who scored 16 points.
Northwood's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Vista Murrieta, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-1.
Northwood and Saugus will face off at 8:30 p.m. on December 30, 2023 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Saugus knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 matches -- so hopefully Northwood likes a good challenge. Vista Murrieta and Bosco Tech will face off at 6:30 p.m. on December 30, 2023 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Jaden Erami and Munoz.
