Highland has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Thornton Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Highland is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Thornton in Colorado (Highland is ranked 97th, while Thornton is ranked 238th).
Highland struggled with assists on Friday (Eaton had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Highland received a tough blow as they fell 69-53 to Eaton. Highland has struggled against Eaton recently, as their game on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their loss, Highland saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Briza Flores, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 37.7% of Highland's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Mary Jones, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Thornton had to suffer through a rough 67-11 loss at the hands of Skyview.
Highland's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6. As for Thornton, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.
Everything came up roses for Highland against Thornton when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 58-14 victory. With Highland ahead 36-5 at the half, the game was all but over already.
