Orofino has gone 8-1 against Kellogg recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Maniacs will take on the Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. Orofino will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
While Orofino's win against Grangeville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Maniacs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Bulldogs on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Maniacs have posted since May 16, 2024.
Orofino's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jaeger Tondevold, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kellogg). They blew past St. Maries 14-4 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Talon Clark looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Kellogg is 3-1 when Clark allows one or fewer earned runs, but 0-11 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alex Cassidy, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Kyle VanVleet also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Orofino pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.2 runs. As for Kellogg, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-12.
Kellogg's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Orofino has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. It's a different story for Kellogg, though, as they've only averaged .353. Will they be able to contain Orofino's hitters?
Orofino took their win against Kellogg when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 14-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Maniacs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
