The Somerset Academy Panthers will challenge the Calvary Christian Academy Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Thursday, Somerset Academy came up short against Florida Christian and fell 5-2. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Patriots recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Liam DeCicco was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alan Sanchez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases. Somerset Academy is 4-2 when Sanchez posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-7 otherwise. Orlando Ramos also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Calvary Christian Academy and Westminster Academy, and Westminster Academy kept the tradition alive. Calvary Christian Academy wound up with the same score they had in their last game (8-7), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Calvary Christian Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Preston Bielec, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits Bielec has posted since back in April of 2024. Another was Luca Erazo, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Calvary Christian Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6-3 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. Somerset Academy now has a losing record of 8-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Somerset Academy hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Calvary Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Somerset Academy couldn't quite finish off Calvary Christian Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2017 and fell 5-3. Can Somerset Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
