The Calvary Christian Academy Lions will head out to square off against the Geneva Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Last Friday, Calvary Christian Academy came up short against Warner Christian Academy and fell 7-4. The Lions haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Joel Gornto and Cruze McLean were huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, Gornto struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, McLean pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gornto has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Gornto scored a run and stole Four bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while McLean went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those RBI were McLean's first of the season.
In other batting news, Logan Kitzke was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Geneva came tearing into Friday's contest with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since April 24, 2024.
Tyson Hilliard was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Kale Blanchette, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
Geneva pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Calvary Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Calvary Christian Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Geneva struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Calvary Christian Academy might still be hurting after the 18-0 defeat they got from Geneva when the teams last played back in February. Can Calvary Christian Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
