Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for El Toro

While El Toro put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Irvine. The Chargers were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Vaqueros. 12 seems to be a good number for the Chargers as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Sadie Mitchell made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Sophia Croft and Kaelyn Perez did most of the damage at the plate: Croft went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Perez went 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those RBI marked the first that Croft has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Emmerson Rollins, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

El Toro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irvine only posted an OBP of .111.

The victory was the third in a row for El Toro, bringing their record up to 4-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Irvine, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. El Toro will take on Woodbridge at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Irvine, they will challenge Northwood at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Vaqueros' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Timberwolves have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
