Fayette Academy hasn't had much luck against Evangelical Christian recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Vikings will look to defend their home field against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Fayette Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Fayette Academy is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against University School of Jackson, falling 21-2.
Fayette Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Moss, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double. That double was Moss' first of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Evangelical Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They walked away with a 5-2 win over Northpoint Christian on Tuesday.
Bennett Edwards spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Banks Addison was excellent, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 2-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caiden Caldera, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Evangelical Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Fayette Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fayette Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Evangelical Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fayette Academy couldn't quite get it done against Evangelical Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
