They took a 53-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of West Florida Baptist Academy on Tuesday. Gulf Pointe Latin has struggled against West Florida Baptist Academy recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Gulf Pointe Latin saw an underclassman step up: Coral Hamer dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Ava Matthews, who scored ten points.
Even though they lost, Gulf Pointe Latin were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
West Florida Baptist Academy was led to victory by Makenna Enfinger and Olivia Pearce. Enfinger scored 14 points along with five rebounds, while Pearce dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Pearce has scored at least 25% of West Florida Baptist Academy's points. Addison Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds.
Gulf Pointe Latin's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for West Florida Baptist Academy, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gulf Pointe Latin will take on South Baldwin Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Florida Baptist Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Baker at 7:30 p.m.
