Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Ella Fiefia and Reese Gustin Lead Pine View to Victory

It was a proper cat-fight when Pine View duked it out withHurricane on Thursday. The Pine View Panthers came out on top against the Hurricane Tigers by a score of 59-46. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 49-43 victory the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Leading Pine View to victory were Reese Gustin and Ella Fiefia. Gustin went 6 of 13 on her way to 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Fiefia posted 14 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Fiefia has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kenedy Eves, who scored five points along with seven boards and three blocks.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Pine View was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hurricane only racked up nine assists.

When it comes to explaining why Hurricane lost, don't look at Hallee Wardle. Despite the final result, she had 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Wardle a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adalyn Johnson, who earned nine points and three steals.

The win made it two in a row for Pine View and bumps their season record up to 10-7. As for Hurricane, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pine View will square off against Desert Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Pine View's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Hurricane, they will face off against Cedar at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
