The Hartsville Red Foxes fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Myrtle Beach Seahawks on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 60-59 to the Seahawks. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Hartsville still got an impressive performance from EJ Smith, who scored 19 points. The matchup was Smith's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shahquan Pendergrass, who scored nine points.
Hartsville has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season. As for Myrtle Beach, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hartsville is on the road again on Friday and play against North Myrtle Beach at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. North Myrtle Beach is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Myrtle Beach, they will head out on the road to face off against South Florence at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Florence knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully Myrtle Beach likes a good challenge.
