Baseball Recap: Ralls Takes a Loss

Ralls extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 8-12. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Olton Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-7 on Tuesday.

Austin Wint was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off one hit. That one hit allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Neo Riojas made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Ralls: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-11 otherwise.

As for Olton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-8-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games.

On Olton's side, Wyatt Francis and Paytn Jimenez did most of the damage at the plate: Francis earned two RBI and two runs, while Jimenez got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Jimenez has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Green, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

Coming up, Ralls will face off against Hale Center at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Olton, they will challenge New Deal at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least ten runs in their last seven contests.
