Wakefield School is 9-1 against Randolph-Macon Academy since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Wakefield School Fighting Owls will head out on the road to face off against the Randolph-Macon Academy Yellow Jackets at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Tuesday, Wakefield School took their match at home with ease, bagging a 55-16 victory over Fredericksburg Academy. Given Wakefield School's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 177th, while Fredericksburg Academy is ranked 404th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Randolph-Macon Academy had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They blew past Quantico, posting a 77-27 victory on the road.
Randolph-Macon Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Bilal Kebbay, who scored 16 points along with eight steals and six rebounds, and Chidera George, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. George is crushing the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnathan Doku, who scored eight points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Wakefield School has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Randolph-Macon Academy, they pushed their record up to 15-1 with that victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Things could have been worse for Wakefield School, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 49-34 loss to Randolph-Macon Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Wakefield School avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
