The Skaneateles Lakers will challenge the Cortland Purple Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Skaneateles' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Cazenovia with a sharp 10-0 victory.
Shea Musso was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hugh Carroll, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Skaneateles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Cortland had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Blue Devils.
Cal Albright made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zach Muir, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Owen Johnson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Cortland pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Skaneateles, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Skaneateles has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cortland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Skaneateles skirted past Cortland 10-9 in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Do the Lakers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Purple Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
