On Tuesday, the Xavier College Prep Gators faced the Gilbert Tigers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Xavier College Prep snuck past Gilbert with a 59-55 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Xavier College Prep was led to victory by Irene (Noelle) Guiamatsia and Sarah Miller. Guiamatsia scored 20 points along with five rebounds, while Miller scored 20 points along with five rebounds. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. Dominique Nesland was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Xavier College Prep's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. As for Gilbert, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Xavier College Prep will square off against O'Connor at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. O'Connor will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Xavier College Prep is ranked second). As for Gilbert, they will head out on the road to face off against Desert Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
