Basketball Game Preview: Fike Demons vs. South Johnston Trojans

Fike is 7-0 against South Johnston since December of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Fike Demons will venture away from home to take on the South Johnston Trojans at 6:00 p.m. Fike will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

Last Friday, Fike was fully in charge, breezing past Beddingfield 76-24. Given the Demons' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Bruins are ranked 463rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fike's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jamaria Freeman, who shot 5-for-9 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten boards, and Kylar Horvath, who went 10 of 14 on her way to 21 points and six rebounds. Those 21 points gave Horvath a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jewel Brewington, who posted 15 points.

Meanwhile, South Johnston came into Friday's matchup having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Smithfield-Selma with a sharp 52-30 victory on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Trojans have posted since January 26th.

South Johnston's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Fike, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0.

Fike strolled past South Johnston when the teams last played back in February by a score of 42-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fike since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
