Fleming Island has gone 8-0 against Fletcher recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Fleming Island Golden Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Fletcher Senators at 5:30 p.m. Fleming Island has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 203 points over their last three contests.
On Monday, Fleming Island got the win against Raines by a conclusive 61-37. The Golden Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 24 points or more this season.
Fleming Island's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Seven Gourdet led the charge by going 6 for 9 on her way to 12 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Amira Martin, who posted eight points and three steals.
Fleming Island smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Fletcher beat Fernandina Beach 40-36 on Friday. Given the Senators' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while the Pirates are ranked 406th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fleming Island better keep an eye on Jasmine Cross. She was instrumental in Fletcher's win, going 6 of 14 en route to 15 points and five steals. That's the most steals Cross has posted since back in November of 2024. Kristyona Harris was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.
Fleming Island has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.2 points per game. As for Fletcher, their record is now 15-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Fleming Island has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Fletcher struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.9 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Fleming Island strolled past Fletcher when the teams last played back in November of 2022 by a score of 55-40. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Cross, who earned 23 points. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Fleming Island still be able to contain Cross?
