Laurel Highlands recap Oct. 9, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Penn Cambria, who took down 162nd ranked Penn Cambria, 27-20. Nathan Bearer threw for 120 yards and two touchdowns and ran for eight yards in the win.
Bishop Guilfoyle was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in Laurel Highlands. The Marauders defeated Bishop Carroll 28-0 earlier in the week.
DJ Kitt was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 143 yards as Bishop Guilfoyle fell to Richland. Cody Rossman also contributed to the rushing game with 92 yards on the ground.
Marcus Hart made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Eagles lost to the Rams. The 6-foot-0 sophomore pulled down one interception.
Baker was the best wideout in the league this week as Somerset fell to Richland. Baker tallied five receptions for 94 yards. Raven Beeman helped Somerset's passing attack out by catching one ball for 22 yards.
Jared Shope threw for 194 yards and two touchdowns. He was 14-21 with two interceptions.
Richland's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Matt Shaffer has thrown for 844 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Kyle Flick has 23 catches for 483 yards. Tanner Solarczyk leads the league in rushing with 791 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Brandon Bailey's team takes on Westmont Hilltop. The Rams are currently in first, while the Hilltoppers are in ninth.
Richland extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Bob Landis' team, 47-0. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Rams.
