Central Cambria let Ben Howard and JD Brouse run wild. Howard went 3-for-4 with two triples, five RBI, and one run, while Brouse got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those five RBI gave Howard a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Kirsch, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Central Cambria was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Bellefonte faced Hollidaysburg in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Red Raiders fell 11-6 to the Golden Tigers. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Red Raiders, who until this game were averaging 2.67 runs allowed.
Oliver Thornburg and Zach Lehman stepped up to the plate in a big way. Thornburg went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles, while Lehman got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Evan Mattern was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Having lost for the first time this season, Bellefonte fell to 8-1. As for Central Cambria, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Central Cambria has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Bellefonte struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 hits.
