Having just played yesterday, the Sonora Wildcats will jump right back in to play the Ripon Christian Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sonora is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
On Wednesday, Sonora strolled past Escalon with points to spare, taking the game 67-51. The win was all the more spectacular given Sonora's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 805th, while Escalon is ranked 231st).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sonora to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jonathan Curran, who scored 19 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. Noah Wright was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, Ripon Christian waltzed into their contest Wednesday with four straight wins but they left with five. Everything went their way against Johansen as Ripon Christian made off with a 63-38 victory.
Sonora's victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Ripon Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Sonora ended up a good deal behind Ripon Christian when the teams last played last Tuesday, losing 59-40. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Ripon Christian's Jake Vander veen, who scored 22 points. Now that Sonora knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
