Basketball Recap: Flatirons Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Denver Jewish Day on Thursday, Flatirons Academy came back down to earth. The Flatirons Academy Bison took a 53-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gilpin County Eagles on Friday. The Bison were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Flatirons Academy still got an impressive performance from Annabelle Rakers, who went 5 for 11 en route to 14 points and seven rebounds. Rakers has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Gilpin County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Faith Ramsey led the charge by going 8 of 17 on her way to 20 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Elise Vincent, who posted ten points along with seven rebounds and five steals.

Flatirons Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Gilpin County, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Dayspring Christian Academy the next time they take the court. Flatirons Academy will host Dayspring Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Gilpin County will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th.
