Burbank is 2-8 against the Owls since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Burbank Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Highlands Owls at 5:00 p.m. Burbank is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
Burbank proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 46) but on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged Alamo Heights out 65-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Burbank to victory, but perhaps none more so than Savannah Botello, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Botello is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Olivia De la cruz, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 16 to 7 on the offensive boards, a fact Highlands proved on Friday. They took down Jefferson 49-30. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Highlands.
Highlands relied on the efforts of Andrea Garza, who scored 14 points, and Zoe Barron, who scored 14 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Garza has scored all season. Aaliyah Jackson was another key contributor, scoring four points along with 12 rebounds.
Burbank is on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 20 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 24-8 record this season. As for Highlands, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-25.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Burbank hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.2 points per game. It's a different story for Highlands, though, as they've been averaging only 39.8 points per game. The only thing between Burbank and another offensive beatdown is the Owls. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything came up roses for Burbank against the Owls in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 66-29 victory. With Burbank ahead 30-7 at the half, the match was all but over already.
