Softball Game Preview: North East Carolina Prep Husky vs. Bertie Falcons

For the second straight game, North East Carolina Prep will face off against Bertie. The Husky will host the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (North East Carolina Prep has four straight wins, Bertie has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Tuesday, North East Carolina Prep got the win against Bertie by a conclusive 17-4. Considering the Husky have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Savannah Babb made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 1-for-2. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Katelyn Knox was a standout: she scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bailee Boyette, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

North East Carolina Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Bertie's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for North East Carolina Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.

Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. North East Carolina Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. However, it's not like Bertie struggles in that department as they've averaged .518. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
