After each having a week off, the Chipley Tigers and the Madison County Cowboys will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Chipley comes in on four and Madison County on three.
Chipley took a 41-point loss the last time they faced off against Lafayette, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers pulled ahead with a 21-20 photo finish over the Hornets two weeks ago. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Tigers were the better team in the second half.
Among those leading the charge was Caiden Coltrane, who rushed for 13 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 73 yards and one TD on only five passes.
Chipley didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Lafayette to a completion percentage of just 41.2%. The Tigers hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.5 or higher in four consecutive games.
Chipley's defense didn't let Tywan K Williamson, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Tucker Locke, Hill Holley, and Ian Rearden, who each picked up one sack apiece. Chipley got some further help from Locke: he picked up a sack and made ten total tackles.
Meanwhile, Madison County won against Apopka back in October with 43 points and they decided to stick to that point total again two weeks ago. The Cowboys blew past Lecanto 43-7. The Cowboys might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Chipley better keep an eye on Na'Quez Christian. He was instrumental in Madison County's win, rushing for 133 yards and three scores on only nine carries. That's the most rushing touchdowns Christian has posted since back in September. The team also got some help courtesy of Travis Arnold Jr, who rushed for 69 yards and one TD.
Chipley's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Madison County, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Chipley has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 170 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Madison County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 212 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more football content.
