Hannah Rollins was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Gracie Michael and Abigail Leonard did most of the damage at the plate: Michael went 3-for-4 with one home run, while Leonard went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Leonard launched this season.
West Davidson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in six consecutive matches.
Ledford typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday North Davidson proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Panthers, sneaking past 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Black Knights have posted against the Panthers since April 22, 2021.
Like West Davidson, North Davidson also got a great game from a two-way player: Rileigh Barker. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Barker was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, Heidi Barker was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. Summer Sheek was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-5.
North Davidson has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for West Davidson, their record now sits at 8-5.
West Davidson's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Dragons have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for North Davidson, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will West Davidson continue to outrun the ball?
West Davidson suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to North Davidson in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
