Scripps Ranch and Clairemont are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Falcons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chieftains at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Scripps Ranch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Scripps Ranch blew Canyon Hills out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Canyon Hills got their revenge. The Falcons fell just short of the Rattlers by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Falcons have suffered since March 8th.
Scripps Ranch got a good showing from Kenzie Johnson, who tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Johnson has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Scripps Ranch saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alina Grady, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Clairemont had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Centurions. Considering the Chieftains have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Gigi Villalpando spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits.
At the plate, Maelea Silao was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Maddy Finley, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
Clairemont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive contests.
Clairemont pushed their record up to 11-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Scripps Ranch, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Scripps Ranch hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Clairemont struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Scripps Ranch couldn't quite finish off Clairemont in their previous meeting back in May of 2019 and fell 7-5. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
