The win was all the more spectacular given Sherburne-Earlville's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 530th, while Cooperstown is ranked 257th).
When it comes to explaining why Cooperstown lost, one person who can't be blamed is Charlie Lambert. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with six assists and six steals. That was a full 34% of Cooperstown's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Cooper Bradley, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Sherburne-Earlville's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-6. As for Cooperstown, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season.
Sherburne-Earlville will face off against Clinton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cooperstown, they will be playing at home against Sauquoit Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
