Softball Recap: Giddings Comes Up Short

Giddings dropped down to 11-10-1 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 11-0 to the Smithville Tigers. The Buffaloes were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but the Tigers' pitchers proved too tough.

As for Smithville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6-1 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

For Smithville's part, Giddings' batters probably weren't too happy with Jessica Hinnant, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 11 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Hinnant has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kenzly White was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Jessi Davis also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

While Giddings had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
