Gadsden County has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Taylor County Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Gadsden County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Gadsden County suffered a rough 55-31 defeat at the hands of Suwannee. While losing is never fun, Gadsden County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 396th, while Suwannee is ranked 146th).
Despite the loss, Gadsden County had strong showings from Eliana Key, who scored 3 points along with 8 rebounds, and Jahyria Dillard, who scored 8 points along with 8 rebounds and 8 steals. Dillard scored a full 25.8% of Gadsden County's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Taylor County came up short against Franklin County on Thursday and fell 38-29.
Despite their loss, Taylor County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kourtney Jackson, who scored 7 points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Irene Meler, who scored 6 points.
Godby's win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Gadsden County's defeat dropped theirs to 0-3.
Everything came up roses for Gadsden County against Taylor County when the teams last played back in January of 2019 as the squad secured a 51-21 victory. Does Gadsden County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Taylor County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
