Roncalli has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Plainfield Quakers at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (Roncalli is ranked 51st, while Plainfield is ranked 47th).
Last Friday, Roncalli didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Linton-Stockton, but they still walked away with a 36-30 win. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Roncalli has scored all season.
Roncalli's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Taylor Turk, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds, and Claire Lindsey, who scored nine points along with six rebounds. The contest was Turk's third in a row with at least ten points. Sara Rosko was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Plainfield has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 24 points or more this season. Everything went their way against Terre Haute North Vigo on Tuesday as Plainfield made off with a 51-27 victory. With Plainfield ahead 33-9 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Plainfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Morgan Barnes, who scored 11 points along with six steals. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Payton Benge, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Roncalli has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Plainfield, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Roncalli hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 53.9 points per game. However, it's not like Plainfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 59.4 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Roncalli came up short against Plainfield in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, falling 66-62. Can Roncalli avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
