Thursday just wasn't the day for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability's offense. They came up short against Clayton on Thursday, falling 17-0.
Meanwhile, Carrboro had to endure a four-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Louisburg with a sharp 14-4 win on Friday. The Jaguars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Joe Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Carrboro got a massive performance out of Evan Stowe, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Those hits were Stowe's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Max Trojanowski, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Carrboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
Southern School of Energy and Sustainability's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Carrboro, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Southern School of Energy and Sustainability has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Carrboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Southern School of Energy and Sustainability came up short against Carrboro when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 11-6. Can Southern School of Energy and Sustainability avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
