The Pebble Hills Spartans will face off against the Permian Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Pebble Hills will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Back in October, Pebble Hills was able to grind out a solid victory over Eastlake, taking the game 31-21. Given Pebble Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 207th, while Eastlake is ranked 475th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gael Ochoa was his usual excellent self, throwing for 338 yards and two touchdowns while completing 73.1% of his passes, and also rushing for 80 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Zereian Quarles, who gained 134 total yards and two touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Pebble Hills' defense and their five sacks. In that department, Rafael Jaquez was the leader with three sacks.
Midland typically have all the answers at home, but on Friday Permian proved too difficult a challenge. Permian walked away with a 21-14 win over Midland. The win made it back-to-back wins for Permian.
Juzstyce Lara continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 179 yards and two touchdowns. Lara was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 59 yards.
Pebble Hills is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. As for Permian, they pushed their record up to 6-4 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Pebble Hills strolled past Permian when the teams last played back in November of 2022 by a score of 45-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pebble Hills since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
