The Preston Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight defeat. They fell to Robert C. Byrd 46-42. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Preston in their matchups with Robert C. Byrd: they've now lost nine in a row.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aaron White, who scored eight points along with two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Bachtel, who scored ten points.
Leading Robert C. Byrd to victory were Camryn Newsuan and Logan Boyce. Newsuan scored 12 points along with three steals, while Boyce scored 20 points along with six rebounds. Boyce is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games he's played. Emmanuell Holmes was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Preston's defeat was their 22nd straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Robert C. Byrd, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
Preston will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hampshire at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in West Virginia (Hampshire is ranked 73rd, while Preston is ranked 59th). As for Robert C. Byrd, they will head out on the road to challenge Fairmont Senior at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Robert C. Byrd comes in on four and Fairmont Senior on 16.
