Brownell Talbot is 1-9 against Fort Calhoun since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Brownell Talbot Raiders will head out on the road to take on the Fort Calhoun Pioneers at 6:30 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Brownell Talbot can finally bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game last Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 45-27 victory over Cedar Bluffs. The win was just what Brownell Talbot needed coming off of a 48-17 loss in their prior contest.
Brownell Talbot got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Simon Lim out in front who scored 13 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of John Schinzel, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Fort Calhoun came tearing into Thursday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Louisville by a score of 42-29. Given Fort Calhoun's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Louisville is ranked 143rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fort Calhoun's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Grayson Bouwman, who scored 19 points. Bouwman has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Declyn Otte, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Brownell Talbot's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-7. As for Fort Calhoun, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Monday's matchup: Brownell Talbot have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.2 threes per game. It's a different story for Fort Calhoun, though, as they've been averaging only 4.8 threes per game. Given Brownell Talbot's sizeable advantage in that area, Fort Calhoun will need to find a way to close that gap.
Brownell Talbot was taken down by Fort Calhoun 61-19 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Brownell Talbot was down 37-12.
