Basketball Recap: Fort Defiance Comes Up Short

On Saturday, the Fort Defiance Indians lost to the Roanoke Catholic Celtics at home by a 87-69 margin.

Roanoke Catholic was led to victory by Jayden Johnson and Demarcus Brown. Johnson went 11 of 17 en route to 24 points in addition to seven assists and six rebounds, while Brown went 8 for 19 on his way to 19 points along with six steals and five assists. The match was Johnson's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Mason Williams was another key player, putting up ten points and five assists.

Fort Defiance has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for Roanoke Catholic, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-6.

Fort Defiance will host Riverheads at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Defiance knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Riverheads likes a good challenge. As for Roanoke Catholic, they are taking a road trip to take on Radford at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Roanoke Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.9 points per game this season.
