Softball Recap: Mount Dora Christian Academy Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Mount Dora Christian Academy and Tavares meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. Mount Dora Christian Academy came out on top against Tavares by a score of 9-5. This was a revenge game for Mount Dora Christian Academy: when they faced off against Tavares back in March, they had to take a 7-3 loss.

Katie Bayly made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bayly was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other pitching news, Trinty DeVries looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Presley Miller, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Bryant, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

Mount Dora Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Mount Dora Christian Academy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Tavares, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mount Dora Christian Academy will welcome Mount Dora at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hurricanes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.67 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Tavares, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against South Lake at 6:00 p.m.
