The Cary Academy Chargers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They breezed by Raleigh Charter at home to the tune of 62-23. The victory was some much needed relief for Cary Academy as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Cary Academy found their leader in underclassman Annalise Dematteis, who scored 31 points along with seven steals. Dematteis also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlin Smith, who scored 12 points.
Cary Academy now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Raleigh Charter, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-3.
Cary Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against South Wake at 5:00 p.m. on December 28th. South Wake presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cary Academy in North Carolina (South Wake is ranked 131st, while Cary Academy is ranked 312th). As for Raleigh Charter, they will be playing at home against Princeton at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Princeton comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
