Softball Game Preview: Central Red Devils vs. Beauregard Hornets

Central has won 13 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Beauregard has won 13 straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Central Red Devils will host the Beauregard Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Central is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alabama's top teams: Helena, who was ranked 16th at the time (Central was ranked second). Central blew past Helena 11-1 on Saturday. Central's victory was all the more impressive since the Huskies were averaging only 3.2 runs allowed on the season.

Allyson Supan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Madison Wagner and Gerritt Griggs did most of the damage at the plate: Wagner went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Griggs scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Griggs has posted since back in May of 2024. Mariah Harrison was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Beauregard never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 15-0 margin over Eufaula. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Central's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Beauregard, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.

Everything went Central's way against Beauregard in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Central made off with a 13-4 victory. Does Central have another victory up their sleeve, or will Beauregard turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
