The Maysville Panthers won the last time they faced the Zanesville Blue Devils, and things went their way on Friday too. Maysville enjoyed a cozy 56-40 win over Zanesville. Given Maysville's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while Zanesville is ranked 577th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Alex Bobb, who scored 24 points. The contest was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Wesley Armstead, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Zanesville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mikey Johnson, who scored ten points. Drew Doyle was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Zanesville struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Maysville is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. As for Zanesville, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maysville will finish 2023 at home by hosting Carrollton at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Carrollton is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. Zanesville will finish 2023 at home by hosting Philo at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Philo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Friday.
