Thornton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 25 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-17. They came up short against the Kankakee Kays, falling 18-1. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Kays this season, with their most recent loss being a 20-0 defeat on Friday.
Thornton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Woods, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles.
As for Kankakee, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 13-4. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
On Kankakee's side, Adleigh Cunningham was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Cunningham has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaleah Jackson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. LaMaryah Smith was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Looking ahead, Thornton will head out to challenge Bloom at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Blazing Trojan have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.83 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Kankakee, they will face off against Momence at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
