The Mechanicsville Mustangs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 82-23 win over Armstrong. That 59 points margin sets a new team best for Mechanicsville this season.
Mechanicsville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kedelin Santos, who scored 18 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. Santos is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kate Carlton, who scored 18 points along with eight steals and five assists.
Armstrong's loss came despite strong showings from Cherish Daily and Kamillah Brown. Daily scored 12 points, while Brown scored nine points. That was a full 52.2% of Armstrong's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
The victory was the sixth in a row for Mechanicsville, bringing their record for this year to 11-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for Armstrong, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.
Mechanicsville won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Highland Springs at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Highland Springs is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Armstrong, they will be playing at home against Maggie Walker at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
