Football Recap: Dunnellon Takes Down Pensacola in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Dunnellon walked away with it. They strolled past Pensacola with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 34-20. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for Dunnellon's offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Tony Tanner produced another solid effort rushing for 129 yards and three touchdowns. He is becoming a predictor of Dunnellon's success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is 3-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Dylan Curry was another key player, rushing for 48 yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Dunnellon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 214 rushing yards. They are 3-1 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Another reason for the win was Dunnellon's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Frederick Mathis, Kaiden Robinson-Vickers, and Randy Jackson Jr, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jamarcuz Fountain, who threw for 274 yards and three TDs while completing 82.6% of his passes, and also rushed for 41 yards. A healthy portion of Fountain's aerial production (94 yards to be exact) went to Courtney George, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Dunnellon's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Pensacola, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.

Dunnellon will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Andrew Jackson at 7:30 p.m. Pensacola does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
