West Adams found their leader in underclassman Justin Cortez, who scored 13 points along with nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cortez has scored all season. Cesar Santiago was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Dr. Maya Angelou Community suffered their biggest defeat since December 14, 2023 on Thursday. They were outmatched by Diego Rivera on the road and fell 62-27.
West Adams' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-11. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for Dr. Maya Angelou Community, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season.
Everything came up roses for West Adams against Dr. Maya Angelou Community in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 58-30 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Adams since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
