After a string of four wins, University's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 46-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Middle College Bulldogs. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 0-0 back in December of 2024.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kalina Lambert, who posted 12 points and six rebounds. Aluana Spears was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine boards.
Gabrielle Rudd continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Middle College, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Rudd is becoming a predictor of Middle College's success: when she posts at least ten boards the team is 10-1 (and 4-6 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Kiya Mell, who put up ten points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals.
University's loss ended a 12-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-4. As for Middle College, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
University wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 55-11 victory against Manassas on the 27th. Middle College has also already played their next game, a 56-20 win against Soulsville on the 27th.
