Creede has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Creede focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Saturday.
Creede suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Saturday. They were outmatched by Moffat at home and fell 62-35. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Creede in their matchups with Moffat: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the defeat, Creede had strong showings from Will Roden, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds, and Jaxson Fazio, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Creede struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Moffat pulled down 20 offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sangre de Cristo scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They breezed by Centennial on the road to the tune of 55-20. Sangre de Cristo has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 22 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sangre de Cristo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaiden Smit, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Smit has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Deagon Rogers, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds.
Creede has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season. As for Sangre de Cristo, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Roden and Smit. Roden has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 18.8 points and 2.1 steals. For his part, Smit has averaged 16.4 points, 2.3 blocks, and 2.8 steals.
Creede lost to Sangre de Cristo on the road by a decisive 57-43 margin when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Creede avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
