On Friday, Kermit was beaten by Riverside 71-28. Kermit was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-10.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Riverside to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sophiya Bustillos, who scored 24 points along with six steals. The contest was Bustillos' eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hazel Veloz, who scored 19 points along with four steals.
Kermit's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Riverside, the win was the 15th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-1.
Kermit and Odessa will face off at 6:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Riverside is on the road again on Saturday and play against Permian at 8:00 a.m. on December 30, 2023. Permian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 644th, while Riverside is ranked 131st).
