Section 9 AA-I recap Sept. 26, 2012
Pine Bush moved up to 56 from 123 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Section 9 AA-I. A 49-14 win over Kingston helped the Bushmen improve their standing.
Pine Bush extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Tigers, 49-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Monroe-Woodbury's dynamic duo of Kevin Carr and Justin Kaffenberger proved tough for Middletown to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Carr threw for 188 yards and one touchdown and Kaffenberger had 80 yards receiving. Jesse Kaffenberger helped Monroe-Woodbury's passing attack out by catching one ball for 41 yards.
Matt Geisler was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 159 yards on 23 carries as the Bushmen defeated the Middie Bears. Teammate Mike Martin added to the ground attack by rushing for 111 yards.
Monroe-Woodbury's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Crusaders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Carr has thrown for 652 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Kaffenberger has 23 catches for 403 yards. Carr also leads the league in rushing with 452 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Pine Bush takes on second place Monroe-Woodbury. Last week, Pine Bush beat Kingston, while Monroe-Woodbury topped Middletown.
There should be lots of points scored when Pat D'Aliso's team and the Bushmen face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Crusaders comes in having scored 144 this season, while Pine Bush has scored 173. Monroe-Woodbury scored 34 points last week as it bested Steve Barone's team.
The Bushmen took down Jeramie Collins's team 49-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Geisler in the win.
