Post Falls hasn't had much luck against Coeur d'Alene recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Trojans will welcome the Vikings at 3:00 p.m. Post Falls is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
On Tuesday, Post Falls sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over Lakeland.
Rylan Morrison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Sienna Williams and Natalie Stroud did most of the damage at the plate: Williams went 4-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Stroud went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Williams has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kulani Peahu-Michael, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Post Falls lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more home runs.
Meanwhile, Coeur d'Alene faced Lake City in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Vikings walked away with an 11-8 victory over the Timberwolves. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
The team relied heavily on Ellie Henderson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Chloe Burke was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Post Falls pushed their record up to 6-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Coeur d'Alene, their win bumped their record up to 13-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Post Falls has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Coeur d'Alene struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Post Falls couldn't quite finish off Coeur d'Alene in their previous meeting two weeks ago and fell 10-8. Will the Trojans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
