Hubbard has gone a perfect 4-0 against Columbiana recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Eagles will take on the Clippers at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Hubbard gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They won by a run and slipped past South Range 5-4.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Columbiana, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They blew past Leetonia 23-3 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Clippers, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Ethan Lehnerd made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Columbiana is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-7 otherwise. Lehnerd was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
In other batting news, Columbiana got a massive performance out of Hunter Davanzo, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those five RBI gave Davanzo a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Beckett Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Columbiana was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Hubbard is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Columbiana, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Everything went Hubbard's way against Columbiana in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as Hubbard made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
